Flat bar anchors have been deployed as retaining element ever since the use of unshaped refractory materials began. They were simple to produce and were adequate for the relatively simple demands at that time. Subsequent findings questioned the flat bar anchor and its properties. Its square cross-section causes cracks to be triggered, the shadow effect in gunned lining generates areas in the refractory concrete with low compaction and in terms of corrosion attacks it is far inferior to a round bar anchor.
With the YC Series, vhi provides an anchoring system has the simplicity of a flat bar anchor but also implements the modern requirements of a refractory anchoring system. The round cross section reduces forces that can trigger cracks in refractory concrete; due to the geometry there are no shadow areas with low compaction in gunned linings. Corrosion rates are lower due to the cross-section geometry. As with flat bar anchors, the YC anchor is fixed to the housing of the component part using manual welding.
